Early every morning, as our campus fills with children, it becomes a bustling, energetic hub of learning. Many of our Kusasa-kids come in carrying the weight of daily challenges that extend beyond classroom walls.
Our teachers understand that their role is not just to impart knowledge; it’s to create a safe and nurturing environment where every learner feels valued and understood. Addressing the emotional needs of learners is essential before any learning can take place.
The first hour of the day is crucial. Each teacher greets their learners with a smile and a word of encouragement, even with a full day of work ahead of them. By taking the time to get to know every learner, by now, they’ve learnt to look for the subtle signs of who needs a little extra time to settle in, who might want to talk, and who is ready to dive into their lessons. Together, they celebrate even the smallest achievements, teaching values and ensuring that everyone is present and engaged.
Every day at The Kusasa Academy is different, and so our teachers know their approaches must be adaptable. While the curriculum is robust, featuring advanced skills like coding and critical thinking, it is vital that learners are emotionally prepared to learn. Teachers carefully design their lessons not only to educate but to inspire, incorporating play and fun to allow learners to experience joy in learning.
The demands of teaching extend beyond the classroom. Balancing administrative tasks—planning, assessing, and managing welfare issues—can be challenging, but our teachers know that these responsibilities are integral to supporting their learners’ growth. Each report and piece of paperwork plays a role in the bigger picture of learner development.
As the school day ends and teachers greet each child at the gate, their responsibilities continue. Home visits allow educators to gain a deeper understanding of their learners’ lives. Meeting families and observing home environments enhances their commitment to making the classroom a supportive space for learning and growth.
Professional development is another crucial aspect of their work. Each year, and above their usual duties, teachers enrol in courses and workshops to remain current and effective in their teaching. This continuous learning is essential for equipping learners for a rapidly changing world, and our teachers actively bring new ideas and strategies back to the classroom. More often than not, they do this because they want to and not because it is compulsory.
Our teachers embrace every challenge as an opportunity for growth. Each time a teacher sees a spark of understanding in a child’s eyes or hears about a newfound dream in a learner’s voice, they know their efforts are impactful. At The Kusasa Academy, they are not just teachers—they are committed educators, focused on shaping brighter futures for every child who walks through their doors.
At The Kusasa Academy, our teachers show exceptional commitment to creating a nurturing environment for their learners. They prioritise both the emotional well-being and academic growth of every learner. Each day, they support children facing unique challenges, ensuring that every child feels valued and inspired to learn. Our teachers’ accessibility for parents and kindness towards the children highlight their dedication to empower our 150 Kusasa-kids to reach their full potential.
Every child deserves attentive, dedicated teachers, and at The Kusasa Project, the staff is ready to ensure they receive nothing less. If you feel the same, please consider making a donation.
