‘Desk-cover’ New Ways To Study!

To foster parent and guardian involvement, each of our Grade 4 learners received a portable study desk, ensuring practical study time. This was presented during our annual get-together with Grade 4 parents to prepare them and the learners for examination time and to teach them essential study skills. Some of our learners have limited space to do their homework or to study, but, yet again, The Kusasa Academy proves innovative and adaptive.

With Love, From Finland

Students and lecturers from the University of Helsinki and the University of Eastern Finland, joined our local Stellenbosch University on a trip to The Kusasa Academy, to explore our teaching and intervention methods. The response from our international friends was overwhelmingly positive:

  • Noora Happonen shared: “There are a lot of things I think are very good in the teaching. The breakfast in the morning, I think, is a good thing, and perhaps also for the children in Finland, the dancing is very nice because they are not sleepy thereafter. I also think the occupational therapy room is amazing! It is so good that professional therapists can see the children in their natural environment at the school.”
  • Anne Posti said: “I find the school really beautiful. It looks nice, and it is uplifting with positive energy around the school. I can see the children here really want to learn, and they want to be successful. It is a lovely image. I think maybe the dancing thing can also be used in Finland as well.”
  • Ilari Lintunen stated: “The teachers have a very big role, and I like to see that. I notice the calmness of the children because there are strict rules, but they are also enforced in a playful way, if you know what I mean. I think the whole method is really nice. I think we can bring some of it back to Finland.”

World Book Day 2024!

We had loads of fun with our homemade silly glasses celebrating World Book Day on 23 April 2024! World Book Day is an annual event organised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation to promote reading, publishing, and copyright.

Straight From the Source of Goodness

Teachers and staff of The Kusasa Project were fortunate enough to attend a tour of the Lotus factory in Wolsely during the school holidays. As with all our donors, we take a keen interest in the role Lotus Bakeries plays in our local and national economies. Thank you, Lotus, for contributing to the success of The Kusasa Project.

Brushing Up On Dental Hygiene

We welcomed dentist Nicole Cupido from Colgate to focus on dental hygiene with the Kusasa-kids. She demonstrated why it is important to brush your teeth before bedtime. Dr. Cupido also handed out toothbrushes and toothpaste. Thank you to Colgate!

Falling In Love With Autumn

Summer has come to an end, and we welcomed the autumn chill in the month of April. As we dust off our boots and fetch our raincoats from the back of the closet, we are excited for the much-needed rain coming during the 2024 rainy season. We also take a moment to enjoy the autumn leaves before raking them up and restoring the grounds to their usual neat exterior.
